“So what is the problem?”
“You are aware that Nanashi has an active volcano on it?” Cheng-Huang inquired. At her nod, he continued, “It will explode soon. The pressure is rising quickly and there’s little that we can do to stop it.”
A volcano? Sevana’s eyes threatened to pop out of her head. “You want me to stop a volcano?!”

My only problem with this story is that I missed the publication date by a few days. Guess my email link has gone south. Regardless, it is a great continuation of the artifactor series and another couple of fine messes that our heroine has managed to get into If you want to know how (or if) she gets out, you'll have to buy the book. I don't do spoilers.A really great young adult read, and can be recommended for readers of any age, as is all of Honor's work. If you haven't read the first three books in this series, you really should start with number 1 or you might find yourself getting a bit confused about who is who. Good news is that you now have four great books to read.
Warning, Honor is habit forming. Once you start reading her work, you will wind up losing sleep each time a new book comes out. Worth it though.

The Canard Case The Artifactor Series Book 4 eBook Honor Raconteur Reviews
My favorite of this series will always be the first book I think. However, this one sure made me think about that. Another excellent addition to the Artifactor series by Ms. Raconteur. It expands on the current world and mythology of the Artifactor and sets up possible further expansion. Excellent book
Not as good as previous books in series. I had the impression that this book was rushed. A little more explaining needed to be done. This is an Artifactor who is very proud of being that and a prodigy. She's also proud of being independent. Suddenly she's unable to work. Can't say more without spoilers.
I finished it too soon!! How long before another comes out?! I just love this author. She sucks me into her world and I never want to leave. I enjoyed book four and hope more are in the works.
Another great adventure of the long-suffering Artifactor. Sevanna Warran just can't catch a break. She barely finishes one job before being kidnapped to solve a new crisis. The new challenge involves both an erupting volcano and a dysfunctional pantheon of demigods, with some question about which is more trouble. This is on top of the trouble she is having with her powers due to a Fae blood transfusion that saved her life. Will this year of turmoil ever end?
I liked the fourth entry in this light-hearted series, despite the cover change for the series to more closely match the Kingmakers series.
I never figured out how the title relates to the book. The volcano never seems like the main plot. But [MINOR SPOILER] the magic disruption plot is not resolved and ends with a total cliffhanger. Though the volcano is resolve in Sevana's usual grinding fashion. Though not entirely in time due to a certain temperamental goddess. Sevana finally gets a chance to be really mean, as has been threatened in every other book in the series but never delivered. I suspect some sort of transcendence plot, but who knows with that cliffhanger there.
I've read nearly all of Raconteur's books and enjoyed them immensely . It is difficult to choose a favorite but the Artifactor series is high on my list. The Canard Case is a delightful read and I eagerly await the next installment in the series.
Over the past couple years Honor Raconteur has quickly grown from one of my favorite authors to must-buy-the-new-one-as-soon-as-I-see-it status. "The Canard Case" keeps to her high standards, and I finished it in about 5 hours (I'm a fast reader). Not all in one sitting, unfortunately. Pesky things like "work," "family," and "sleep" got in the way. But I squeezed in a page or three every chance I got until it was through. And what an ending! I get a grin on my face just thinking about what's been set up to happen in the next volume. No spoilers here, you'll have to read it yourself to see what I'm talking about. And don't skip to the end. It won't have the same strength if you haven't read the rest of the story first.
I'm so glad Ms Raconteur is a fast writer... I don't think I could wait the two or three years many authors of this quality take for a sequel.
No, that's a lie. It would totally be worth the wait. But I'm thrilled we probably won't have to!
